Granby Center Pharmacy
The history of the Granby Center Pharmacy has many interesting facts. Today's pharmacy is located where the first trading shop in Granby was and it was operated by William Eastmen at 128 Pleasant Street. He was licensed from 1758 to 1760. In 1821 Capt. Luther Henry began the first store in Granby center at 242 State Street (the present location of the Center Pharmacy.) The store was built in 1840. It’s on the site of two former stores. It was first an apartment where Mr. O. Davis and his family lived. The home and store were wrecked by fire. Then a one story store was built. The store was run by Mr. Bell and by Mr. Farry too. This store burned and Mr. Bell moved the barn that had stood in the rear forward onto the site and made it into the present store and upstairs apartment. The post office had been in both of these earlier stores. For many years the post office in Granby occupied part of the current store until 1943. The present drugstore is run by Mr. Lalond. The telephone switchboard was located there at one time also. Right now, it is a drugstore and still in business. There is a lot of history from the Granby Center Pharmacy.
